Up for sale is a wonderful glassware vase called the
TEARDROP VASE
and was either made by
Blenko
or
Royal Leerdam
.
This vase is from the
Colonial Williamsburg Foundation
& Restoration Collection
.
It is style number
CW 2V
and was
in production from
1942
to
1980
.
The teardrop design is one of the most graceful reproductions in
CW's
glassware line.
The teardrop in this intriguing pattern is formed by first introducing a wire into the molten stem to form a fistula.
When a channel forms, a wet stick is applied and the steam develops a
"TEAR"
, which the craftsman pushes up the stem to the desired spot.
Many fragments of teardrop stems were revealed in
Williamsburg
archaeological excavations.
The vase is a fine reproduction in the style of teardrop stemware and is ideal for long-stemmed flowers arrangements.
This vase is mouth blown and hand formed.
The vase has a pontil which is indicative of a mouth blown piece of where the punty or punt was broken from a work of blown glass.
The vase came in two sizes:
CW 2V – 10"
CW 2VL – 11 1/52"

Top Opening Diameter – 5"

It is in
vintage previously owned used condition
with little wear for their age.  It shows bright clarity.
I see no chips, cracks or nicks and only a couple of expected extremely faint surface marks / light scratches from minor use.
Spots on the glass are sunlight reflection from the windows.
